Più di settemila monache vivono a Yarchen Gar nella più grande comunità del buddismo tibetano del mondo. Le monache vivono in un vasto accampamento a quattromila metri di altitudine. Le loro baracche, fatte di plastica e tela, sono prive di acqua corrente ed elettricità, si dedicano allo studio, alla preghiera e alla meditazione. In inverno, per cento giorni, meditano dall’alba al tramonto in piccoli cubicoli. Nel 2001 le autorità cinesi hanno distrutto più di 800 case con il pretesto del numero eccessivo di monaci. More than seven thousand nuns living in Yarchen Gar in the largest communities of Tibetan Buddhism in the world. The nuns live in a large camp at four thousand meters above sea level.Their huts are made of plastic and cloth, are without running water and electricity, the nuns are devoted to the study, prayer and meditation.In winter, for a hundred days, from dawn to dusk meditate in small cubicles.
